  1. The Quickview pane. Enter a URL to a known Newsfeed, the name of a saved RSS file, or select a previously visited newsfeed from the dropdown list, then press Enter or click the Open button. Data from the URL is loaded into the tab, displaying the newsheader (5).
Notes: If the URL or file does not point to a compliant file (or it has compliant data that contains invalid XML), an error message appears.
The Quickview pane can be hidden by clicking the "X" on the Quickview label; to restore it, choose Quickview from the View menu.
  2. The Select File button opens a dialog that lets you locate and load previously saved newsfeed files on your local drive or local network.
  3. The Newsheader, which contains RSSOwl's internal tabbed browser and article list (see #5). When the article list is displayed, information about the newsfeed source is available in the upper portion of the tab. You can expand and contract the source information by clicking on the arrow above the article list.
  4. Newsfeed Favorites tree. This pane represents your newsfeeds collection. Data for these feeds may be stored on your local drive, on a local network, or, in the case of Subscriptions, on a remote site. Use the Favorites pane to view, manage, and even share your collection of newsfeeds.
  5. The lower pane of the Newsheader lists articles available in the currently selected newsfeed. The list can represent articles from your Favorites collection, from a newsfeed search results set, or from a newsfeed URL entered into the Quickview bar. Click any article on the list to view its summary and source URL in the News pane. Double-click an article to open it in the browser.
  6. The News pane displays summary text from the article currently selected in the Newsheader pane. It also contains a link to the URL for the article. The link opens the full article in the browser.
  7. The status line will become active whenever a newsfeed is loaded, reloaded or searched. Use the stop-button to cancel the loading. The skip-button is usefull when loading more than one favorite to skip the loading of a feed.
  8. The favorites tree toolbar allows to quickly access some usefull actions. Mark all favorites read or aggregate / reload / search all favorites that are stored in the tree.
  9. The channel info box contains information about the displayed newsfeed. For example homepage, author and last modified date. Simply click on the gray box to view the information.
  10. Use this drop-down to rate the current viewed news with AmphetaRate.
